MIT requires letters of recommendation from two teachers. The most competitive applicants will provide one from a math/science teacher, and one from a humanities, social science, or language teacher. We also require materials from your school counselor (typically including your transcript, a school profile, and a letter of recommendation).
MIT’s recommendations process is completed online; you may request evaluations through the Recommendations section of your application. We will also accept letters and materials submitted through your school’s preferred system, such as Parchment, Naviance, SCOIR, Cialfo, or MaiaLearning.
Regardless of where documents are submitted, recommenders must fill out the MIT-specific recommendation form. On the form, recommenders can indicate if they would like to submit their additional documents (prepared letters, school profiles, transcripts, etc.) using a third-party service.
