The future of computing and AI
MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, opening in fall 2019, aims to give MIT’s schools a shared structure for collaborative education, research, and innovation, and also to advance pioneering work on AI’s ethical use and societal impact. By adding new integrated curricula and degree programs in nearly every field, the college will equip students to be as fluent in computing and AI as they are in their own disciplines—and ready them to use these digital tools wisely and humanely to help make a better world.
Many majors
When you apply to MIT, you apply to the entire university, and all first-year students begin undeclared. During your first year, you will attend academic fairs, lectures, seminars, and other programs designed to help you decide which major will suit you best; you are then free to choose from any of MIT’s courses of study, without any additional requirements or admission procedures. You may choose a traditional, interdisciplinary, or joint degree, or a double-major. From economics to biological engineering to philosophy, if there’s a subject you’re drawn to, chances are we offer a course of study that aligns with it.
Learn your way
As a first-year student, you have the opportunity to participate in one of four First-year Learning Communities: Concourse, ESG, MAS, and Terrascope. These unique groups with common interests offer programs that allow you to study and socialize as part of a smaller community while still taking advantage of the intellectual and cultural diversity of the Institute as a whole. Details on advising options related to each community for the incoming Class of 2023 will become available May 1, 2019.
