Have a question about your application? We’ve put together this FAQ for applicants to help you answer some of your most common 🤔 questions.

Can I defer my enrollment?

If you’re admitted to MIT, you may defer enrollment for one or two years. After confirming your intent to enroll in MIT’s first-year class, you will be asked to submit a formal request for deferment to the Dean of Admissions. Such requests are usually granted (indeed, often encouraged!).

Common reasons for deferment include employment, travel, and military, or religious service. Please note that you may not defer enrollment at MIT to enroll in courses at another college or university.
