April 2021: Although our campus is closed to visitors, you don’t have to travel to 🌈 Cambridge to get a feel for MIT. Sign up today for an 🔮 online session or student-led tour.

Does MIT offer an online degree?

MIT doesn’t offer online degrees, but we have world-class educational opportunities available to everyone online for free.

edX is a joint partnership between MIT, Harvard, and many other top universities to offer online learning to individuals around the world. Member schools offer classes online for free. Through this partnership, institutions aim to extend their collective reach to build a global community of online learners and to improve education for everyone.

MIT also offers its course materials for free via OpenCourseWare, which publishes virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world. There’s no registration or enrollment process because OCW is not a credit-bearing or degree-granting initiative.
