The Final Countdown by Jess K. '10

Duh nuh nuh, nuh... duh nuh nuhnuhnuh..

There’s one week left of my freshman year – how much can you fit in a seven days? A seven-page paper, six nights of studying, five hours to attend of the four classes I’m taking, three finals to sit through, two days to pack, and one night when Javi and I will order Thai food from Pepper Sky to commemorate our last 5.12 exam. (It’s tradition.)

And if that’s not enough for you, I have four-hour long shifts times three left on the ambulance this semester, one of which I’m currently on, and will be finishing in 15 minutes to get to my two classes this afternoon, that is, after I run back to my dorm to shower during my one hour lunch break.

I’ve deactivated my Facebook account (the first step is admitting you have a problem) and have one page left to write on the linguistics paper, rearranged all my notes into binders organized by test, and am planning to spend the rest of the day buried in orgo like an ostrich in the sand at Hayden Library. (Except for a quick study break to Berklee to go see Andrew Bird. I’ve barely just finished freaking out about Randall Munroe!)

See you in seven days!

    3rd post.

I think it must be really detaching to know that it’s the final week of your freshman year.

Yeah, that just makes me feel tired. I don’t know where you’re coming from with all this “I have a work ethic and am good at life” nonsense.

I’m mostly going, “ALL I HAVE TO DO IS JUST SIT THROUGH THE EXAMS FOR A FEW HOURS AND THEN THE PAIN WILL FINALLY BE OVER. ALL THE PAIN.” And, you know, doing my final countdown (ba-ZING!) of the 96 units I have to go.

(I’m kind of thinking we should make up some kind of “12 Days of Christmas”-like song for this post.)

Here is why you will always succeed at life more than I will:

You know this whole “push hard all the way to the finish line” business that you’re doing? I just don’t understand anything about what it would feel like to be that good a student. Your self-control is amazing. I mentally checked out about three weeks ago. Finals will probably be a crapshoot. WHOOPS.

    In sum, you’re awesome.

I’m impressed. I should probably deactivate my facebook account. Its basically the worst thing that’s ever happened to me.
    Good luck with everything!

YOU DEACTIVATED YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT?! I don’t think I’d ever do that, but then again, I can get away from it for a while to study. But it IS very distracting, so I understand why you would do that.

Still, that’s a sad, sad thing.

This semester, for me will come to an end tomorrow when I will have finished my 11th AP tests this senior year. I am not going to take any final exams next week cuz our teachers warn us not to show up in their classrooms for final exams when it is not absolutely necessary, like you have not been absent for more than 3 school days this semester… Since the prom is over, a lot of my friends don’t care about the graduation a bit …YOOHOO summer starts at 3:00 pm tomorrow..See yall in the orientation. Have a SAFE and wonderful summer..

Congratualtions on ALMOST finishing your freshman year. Hopefully I’ll be in a somewhat similar state in a couple of years. Weird when you wish bucket loads of stress on yourself. I just love MIT SO much. Anywho, GOOD LUCK on your exams! PEACE!

Wow. You must have amazing self-control to deactivate your Facebook. It’s the drug of choice, more inelastic than heroin…
