Graduations by Matt McGann '00
I’m on my way now to my brother’s graduation in Pennsylvania. I’m not really sure how it will go, or how it will compare to MIT’s Commencement, but I’m sure it will be a great time.
This year’s MIT Commencement speaker will be Irwin Jacobs, the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm. Jacobs is also a former MIT graduate student and faculty member. I don’t know what Jacobs will say, but here is a list of previous MIT Commencement speakers, with a link to their speech:
- 2004, Elias Zerhouni, Director of NIH
- 2003, George Mitchell, former US Senator
- 2002, James Wolfensohn, President of the World Bank
- 2001, Daniel Goldin, NASA Administrator
- 2000, Carly Fiorina, President & CEO, Hewlett-Packard
- 1999, Tom & Ray Magliozzi, MIT alums and hosts of National Public Radio’s Car Talk
- 1998, William Jefferson Clinton, US President, and David Ho, AIDS researcher
- 1997, Kofi Annan, United Nations Secretary-General
