A Very McGann Christmas by Matt McGann '00
Happy holidays.
The Christmas holiday is a pretty big deal in my family. On Christmas Eve, Santa visits our annual family gathering, with 40+ McGanns in attendance.
Just a few miles from my house is the famous Big Duck, which always gets all gussied up for the holidays.
It’s great to be able to spend some quality time with my family… I hope many of you are taking advantage of your holiday time with family, too.
Happy holidays! =)
Hey Matt, I hope you’re having a good holiday! I just wanted to let you know (in case you weren’t aware) that in today’s edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette there was an article on college admissions blogging, featuring the MIT blogs! Here’s the link in case you are interested:

Hi!
Just a little question I wanted to ask you:
I just inmigrated to the US with my family, and I dont have a high school diplomma from any US school. I’m planning on taking APs and enrolling on a shool for that pourpose (Calc AB, Calc BC, Physics C and maybe Art or Lit)I’ll be taking the SATs and also the TOEFL. The idea is to prove I am a qualified student for MIT, but i’m not sure id I really need a High School diplomma. Should I just take the APs? (I’m sure I would get outstanding grades)
Also, maybe I could just enroll in some college’s program for summer or simple courses while I wait for the EA deadline 2006. What would be better? PLease help me.
Thanks!
Sebastian
Happy Holidays! to anyone who’s reading this.
I got deferred from early and I was wondering, is there any way to send additional materials online? Or, so I have to mail them to MIT? I wanted to send an abstract and/or the whole of my Intel paper. Would additional recs be helpful?
Merry Christmas, Matt.
I am not applying to MIT, I was accepted to Kenyon College ED. Very excited.
Anyways, just wanted to post here and tell you how much I appreciate a top school like MIT attempting to “humanize” the admissions process. Also, you are a complete hottie. What a stud.
A fan,
Mike.
Merry Christmas Matt!
:D
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!!
Nice duck…didn’t know it was in Long Island. Maybe I’ll visit.
Are you a video game fan? I’m wondering who made that Operation ‘tute: The MIT FUN(d) Challenge game that’s on the spotlight today. A lot of fun!
Hi!
I don’t understand very clearly about the deadline January 1, 2006. Which documents do I have to submit at that time, which ones can wait. And the fee waiver, which documents are needed and when.
Thanks
Chieu Minh
HI Matt,
Is it true that if we don’t sign the waiver on the teacher evaluation forms, our recommendations aren’t taken seriously? If yes, can I send my decision to waive my right to view the evaluation on a separate paper? (My evaluations have been mailed.) I am an international student from India.
Thanks.
Matt,
Happy holidays! =)
A question here: someone who’s taken the TOEFL and the January SAT II is eligible to apply to MIT, right? Should I notify the office that I’ll be taking the 2 SAT II’s in January?
Best,
Salman
nice duck!
OMG, there’s a large duck on LI? WHERE??!?!? MUST… VISIT… DUCK…
(I actually used to have 32 or so real duckies. soooo cute. kind of messy though when they have to… um… poop.)
:'( [misses duckies]
I wonder if there are any eggs underneath..?
I bet his quack is loud enough to echo…or so says the mythbusters.
Merry Christmas Matt!.This time I hope am in for a “deferred” Christmas in March.
