Regular Action Decisions: Sunday 3/14 by Matt McGann '00

How to receive your MIT admissions decision.

MIT Admissions plans to make Regular Action decisions available online on Sunday, March 14 at 2:00 PM EDT… actually, we’ll probably have decisions posted a minute before 2pm.

Receiving your decision online is as easy as pi. When decisions are released, simply visit decisions.mit.edu and log in using the same username and password that you use to log into your MyMIT account. There are no interim screens, so you should be sure you are ready to receive your decision online before logging in to decisions.mit.edu.

To ensure that you will receive a decision online, please visit decisions.mit.edu and enter your username and password. Decisions.mit.edu will be available through the decision date for applicants to confirm their login ability and decision eligibility.

If you've forgotten your MyMIT password, you may use our automated system to reset it. Simply visit my.mit.edu and click on the lost password link. There is a similar link for forgotten usernames. If you're having trouble using our automated username/password recovery process, please email [email protected] with your full name and mailing address.

Admissions decisions will be available exclusively online. Decisions will not be released via email, snail mail, carrier pigeon, or Nekobasu special delivery (still working on that). Following the release of admissions decisions, however, we will be mailing necessary materials to admitted students.

I wish you all the best!

    First!
Nice subtle pi reference. . .

  2. Saman Moniri says:

Yay! I can’t wait. (Hopefully I will be as happy as I am not about this on Sunday as well.)

  3. Rahul says:

Good Luck Everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We should start Nekobasu service next year ^.^

  4. Matto says:

    ten days.

    sigh.

  5. Andrew says:

THE most stressful day of 2010!

  6. Nate says:

I will be leaving on March 14 to go to South Korea and my flight leaves at 12:55, so I will have to wait an extra 13 hours to see my decision! :(
I cant wait to find out!

  7. Chelsea says:

Maybe our decisions will become available exactly 26 and a half seconds after 1:59?

  8. Ahmed says:

    Wish you all the best,
I hope if we all will get accepted ^.*

  9. Ew… This means I’ll have to wait another 9 days for my MIT decision and CCC results. I can’t risk to see my CCC results before MIT decision, thanks to quantum physics and law of conservation of luck. Something really lucky happened on me during CCC.

  10. Liz '14 says:

Thank you SO MUCH for working so hard to get decisions out by March 14. With the increase in applications it must have been harder but I promise you the effort to keep things on pi day is not unappreciated. smile

  11. Tim ('14?) says:

YES! Thank you Matt! I was really hoping for pi day decisions!

So excited for the pi day now!!! Thanks so much for the update Matt!! And All The Best everyone!!! =)

  14. @Chelsea: Haha, 3.141592…nice one smile

YES! THE TORTURE IS NEARLY OVER!!! Does anyone else feel like even being rejected will be less painful than 6 months of waiting (or 3 if you were RA)?

My friend in Germany and I are going to have to figure out the time difference so we can open our decisions at the same time…

Good luck everyone! Hope you all get in!

(*Prays* I would be the first person in my school’s history to get into an Ivy, much less MIT. All the administrators are making me promise to text/email them the results over spring break…)

  15. Lucas says:

Why couldn’t they have had it on e day, we could have found out so much sooner smile

  16. Mohammad'14 says:

Nice, I can’t believe the college process is finally coming to an end, thank god, I need to get on with my life smile Good luck guys!

  22. Caio ('14?) says:

    I’m VERY anxious.

  23. Jacob ('14?) says:

Now I just have to worry about being wait-listed!

    So much waiting already!

    Good luck to everyone!

  24. Shihun says:

    YC同学,所有人都那么紧张的情况下,你不觉得应该调剂一下吗?什么叫丢脸?你看看我们之前的留言,都是说多紧张多紧张,我们只是想要缓解一下而已。

  25. Jacob ('14?) says:

That said even if I am wait-listed it will all be worth it if I get in!

  26. Akash says:

    Well…..Finally…!!!!

  27. Akash says:

can’t wait for pi day…GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
may the mass times acceleration be with you…hahaha

  29. No sleep till pi day….

  30. CanadaCrosby says:

I agree. YB and Shihun’s comments are just funny. Gives us an idea of current students.

For those who cant read Chinese, its nothing offensive…but rediculously funny

  31. The countdown begins… Best wishes for everyone!!

    (reCAPTCHA: ‘in fearless’ hmm…)

  32. I would really like to get my decision through mail, instead of online. I am willing to wait. When will paper decisions be mailed? Will they be mailed to all regular decisions applicants?

  33. Ammar says:

For some reason I’m not feeling anxious, worried, or anticipation in anyway, is that bad ?

    @everyone complaining about their countries
I’m not too hot about the idea of going to “the land of opportunities” but I am for MIT, MIT is itself said land for me.
If my country doesn’t have opportunity X which I’m passionate about then I’ll work on creating it for me and others, something I do plan to work on.
I advise you do so as well ^_^

  34. BEST OF LUCK EVERYONE (“, )

    My stomach is in knots!!!!!

  35. mrmish says:

Oh dear! Can anybody realize how tough it is for an internatinal student (with only a 3% chance)?

For some intl students, trapped in cram systems, its an ultimate fight to break into a world of opportunities, which they have always been denied.
(The educational systems of some countries are really bad!)

These days all my prayers are like:
“Dear Mr. God, please make me a bird. So that I could fly far. Far far away from here.”
    (Guess the source!)

    **************GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE**************

  36. martin says:

@mrmish: oh yeah! I know what the phrase “third world” really means.

  37. However this turns out for my daughter, this is the best admissions office in the country, and the process has been excellent. Thank you for making it a pleasant experience.

  38. 12npm12 says:

Oh well though compared to the US educational system, my country’s is quite bad, I’m contented with living here, studying here and enjoying life here, and would never ask for a chance to return back. I’m not that desperate to run for a place at MIT. Whatever it will be, acceptance or rejection, I deserve what I deserve to have, and I’ll be happy with it smile

@Ammar: No. At least, staying calm and you won’t find your room a mess before 1:59 EDT :D Just wait until 1:58 EDT and we will see if your heart breaks raspberry

    My CAPTCHA btw: required expected???

  39. mrmish says:

^ Oh no, I’m not from a third world country. I’m from India. Here there are plenty of opportunities for professional studies but no incentives for pure sciences at UG level.(Esp. for my area of interest – Astronomy/Astrophysics)

  40. Chin '14? says:

    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

  41. Thanks for the update!! I can’t wait!!!
    Good luck everyone smilesmile

  42. Dillon('14?) says:

This is hardcore exciting. I’m counting down the minutes (13804 left if anyone is wondering).

  43. Divyansh says:

    Finally a date is released
Waiting anxiously now for 15th March.
    BEST OF LUCK EVERYONE

  44. Anonymous says:

@ Tesh ’14?! smile paper decisions are not mailed,I believe online is the only way to know, unless you are accepted then other stuff comes in the mail that you need but i don’t think that will be for a while

  45. @mrmish: I agree with you mrmish. I knew that my city, S√£o Paulo, had a very bad educational system. But after I saw the U.S. system in this whole application process, I now know that S√£o Paulo’s educational system is even worse than I thought.

My heart is beating way over the normal limit, everytime I see a pi symbol from now on I am going to freak out.

    Good Luck everyone : )

  46. Jorge says:

Good luck everyone! I´m seriously nervous!

  47. Tim ('14?) says:

I will not be able to concentrate at all on my math test tomorrow. Calculus of polar curves. WAY too much pi.

  48. SS3 Gaara says:

I can’t even imagine what I’ll feel like if I see a huge “UNSECCESSFUL” or “SORRY U WEREN’T GOOD ENUF” as soon as I log in….

  49. Anonymous says:

I can’t wait to go through this wait again

  50. Matt,
My tracker states that MIT has still not processed my Midyear Report; should I resubmit it? Or is this normal?

    Thank you.

  51. manis404 says:

    omgomgomGGGGGg!!!!

    *faints*

  52. '13 says:

All these happy people, and the vast vast majority of you will be throwing out the profanities and hating MIT one week from Sunday.

  53. L '14? says:

Guys, I sincerely wish good luck to every one of you. I know how much effort and time you have spent to get to your dreams. Unfortunately not all of us can get in, but I wish it was so…
And even if I dont get in, I am thankful for what I felt and feel right now. These were probably the best few months of my life.
And thanks to MIT Admissions for having such a great team that sends out decisions earlier than everybody else.

  54. bgg says:

Well, I’m glad MIT is able to send out in March before everywhere else. As American sports legend Charles Barkley once wrote, “April is the cruelest month.”

I’m almost positive he wrote that.

  55. Brad says:

Wow. Pi day. I’m scared already. Good luck guys.

  56. Arpit says:

I don’t believe in god but i do pray now

  57. I’ve put myself in a pretty bad situation. I spent most of February in an international debate tournament and so missed most of my mid year exams. I finished making up for them and got my official scores yesterday and sent my mid-year report today.

This is pretty bad. With decisions only 9 days away, I’m pretty sure I goofed this up pretty bad.

Now, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with his and tell me if there’s anything else I should be doing.

  58. n.vilcins says:

I thought it would never happen, but after reading this entry I have become unusually stressful.

  59. Anonymous says:

All the best to all of us.. May God Bless Us And Be With Us Always..

    best of luck to everyone!

Captcha: ‘ rugby works’.. wonder if it’s not too late for me to try that as well.. hmm.. wink

  60. EA Admit '14 says:

    @ Matt

Are you releasing financial aid decisions by March 14 as well? I am getting pretty nervous about the FA result… :S

  61. and says:

9 days to THE DAY- Wordless-awesome

  62. Sun says:

WOW. So excited and nervous at the same time!!!

  63. Niloo says:

Dear “Pi”, please bring me good news smile)

  64. Can’t waiittt !!
Most probably rejected …but the journey was worth the while.
Thank you MIT for bringing out the best in me and pushing me to the limits. I hope the news are pleasing to each and every one of us.
    Best of luck. smile
    see you on pi day.

  65. Sreyan says:

I’m tense already…. chances are astronomically low for internationals, but well, I’ve always hoped!!

i agree with mrmish, India is a great place for professional courses, Law, Medicine and Engineering, but there is NO scope for Brain and Cog people like me…

    I want to break free!!!

P.S. The Pi Day concept is awesome! smile

  66. YB says:

    装逼遭雷劈

  67. Upnorth says:

I get to wait over my spring break! decisions come out on the last day of spring break too! woot!

  68. Jennifer '14 says:

Good luck guys! Try to beat us early actioners for # of comments. :3

  69. as Thermody-man-x said “journey was worth the while”, it definitely was. After all, experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want.

Also another piece of advice from my own experience, nothing works like a huge KDE coundown widget in the middle of your desktop to boost your stress levels. Make sure it shows the remaning seconds smile

  70. Shraddha Pai says:

    my name is Shradda Pai!!!
Hope Pi day is MY day!!!
    Good luck to all :D

  71. Shihun says:

  74. Zeki('14?) says:

There is no possible known medical way of keeping me calm for nine days from now!I hope you got ways of this for yourselves…
And if I’m not admitted…You don’t want to hear my sad story. That’s ok wink

recaptcha:TO CHEDDARS !!!! Can this be coincidence? :O

  75. wow!, my mind is about to explode

  76. I’ll probably have to take some medication to calm me down before I can log in…! I’m scared…

  77. hello every one here! and greeting from Tunisia
good luck to all applicants from all the world !!!!!

  78. YES! Finally :D
@mrnimish- We have the Indian Institutes of Space Technology and other good institutes for astro. Do keep them as backups.

  79. Brian says:

LOVE how we will receive our decisions exactly at TIME = PI !!!!! I was hoping to be the first to post this, but I was far from it!!!!! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!!

  80. I’ll need to prepare two things before reading the decisions:

    – A list of friends and relatives I need to phone with their numbers
    – A list of local mental institutes with their numbers

After all, these mental institutes are also institutes smile

  81. @ Kenneth(’14?)
    Me too!

Well Dear Pi please dont disappoint me!
    smile
    GUD LUCK GUYS!

  82. cott says:

Ummm…. I really don’t know what happened to my heart when I first saw this post…..
I feared the admission decision but yet, I have been desperately yearned for it!!
    I must be insae…:(

  83. Jyoti_M says:

    Hi!

I just wanted to thank you all, applicants and the people running this site, for… well, I don’t know, but I think we have been kind of a family, haven’t we… ?
I guess that this feeling, apart from the dreams, is what has driven me to reapply this year (yes, I got rejected the last time). What else can I say…? The applications process has been a long but beautiful journey, I got to meet some nice people from MIT and other Universities, participated in competitions, Olympiads, read MIT blogs, and met an applicant whom I am now in a (my first) relationship with… a lot has happened since Dec 2008… Experiences, of making friends, feeling a common anticipation, having my mobile pickpoketed (yes, that WAS related to admissions wink 03/14, 04/01… I owe it all to you.

So my thanks and Love to everyone. I wish you the best of luck. I have never had much luck myself (consider being unable to participate in the International Informatics Olympiad because Bulgaria (where I happened) does not have an Embassy in your country :( )… But still I will keep my fingers crossed smile

    Regards from 22°N, 91°E

  84. Despair Not says:

Listen, it is good to steel yourself for the prospect of bad news, but remember: it’s not Hogwarts — no one gets in without applying first. Who dares, wins.

Captcha: Other Defeats? Let’s hope not.

  85. navin says:

    hoooray!!!!
    finally the RESULT!!!
    cant wait to see ’em!!!!
    hoooray!!!!
    finally the RESULT!!!
    cant wait to see ’em!!!!
    <3 MIT

  86. martin says:

    Hooray!!!!!!!!

DST starts in March 14 in the USA and not until April in Mexico, so I will get my decision at midday.

    I know I’m deceiving myself…

  87. Note, there is a time change next Saturday, as daylight savings time takes over. Thus, EDT, not EST, rules. This means that your results will be available an hour earlier than you think if you fail to reset your clocks. 2:00 EDT = 1:00 EST. Celebrate!

  88. Hey, Matt. You have “?” where quote ‘ unquote should be on the decisions page. Thought you would want to know…

  89. Snad ('14?) says:

Yes Time=Pi is an amazing concept. I am counting down seconds. my brain will just not stop! God Bless us all.

    P.S. Captcha: be somebody

    Love it smile

  90. Babak says:

    Oh no!! I can’t wait!!!!!!!!
that’s a week before our new year! I wish to hear a good news by MIT and start a new year happily…
    Best of Luck every one;)

Strongly suggest the blog’s administrator delete YB’s and Shihun’s posts.

  93. And now the nerves begin. Good luck to everyone!

  94. brian says:

i don’t know why am not elated. cannot imagine an internet problem and logging in to see a blank page! @northwestern grad, thanks for the EDT clarification.

  95. What? MIT can’t release their decisions at exactly pi? That’s a violation of my paradox!

  96. This seems as good a time as any to start linking to my MIT countdown/chatroom:

    http://www.airpoke.com/mitchat/

I threw it together about a week before EA decisions came out and it got pretty crazy in there (especially on decision night; there were about 30 people and we were all freaking out… :D)

    (Also CAPTCHA: “gas fondling.” What.)

  97. Every time I even think about this, my heart seems to beat twice as fast. The wait is killing me, and I don’t know yet how I will take it if I’m not accepted, let’s hope I never have to.

  98. stewa says:

talk about a stressed young man and think about me.The best of luck to everyone

  99. Helena says:

EDT is the same as EST, right? D:
