The Secondary School Report (SSR) is a form that provides the admissions committee an overview of your academic performance and experience. It is designed for U.S. school systems but may be adapted for international school use.
Your school counselor (or another school official) should submit the SSR to us along with your required official transcript, a letter of recommendation (if available), and a school profile (if available). When you add a recommender in your application with the “School Counselor / Secondary School Report” type, we immediately email them a personalized link to an MIT-specific SSR recommendation form in which they can upload all materials.
- Your school counselor/official should complete the MIT-specific SSR form regardless of how they plan to submit your transcript and materials so that we can match materials to your application.
- Submitting the MIT-specific SSR form automatically fulfills the SSR component.
- We accept other SSR documents, and materials sent outside of the MIT-specific SSR form. Your counselor can indicate on the MIT-specific form if they will submit materials via other accepted methods (such as third-party services or email). Materials sent outside of the MIT-specific recommendation forms take longer to process, but your application will not be disadvantaged.
- Many international schools do not calculate GPA, class rank, and other statistics, so your school counselor/official may leave those spaces blank. MIT admissions counselors are trained to understand the educational system in your part of the world, and we do not try to convert your metrics to the American system.
