First-year applicants: Transcripts

We require an official transcript sent by a school counselor or representative. This applies for high school and college transcripts. If your school does not have a school counselor, your transcript may be submitted by your registrar’s office, principal/headmaster, or other official entity.

Counselors can submit transcripts to us in three ways:

  1. By uploading them directly into the MIT application portal
  2. By using a third-party service such as Naviance or SCOIR
  3. By sending PDFs to [email protected]

Most applicants have their counselor submit a transcript in our application portal along with the Secondary School Report. To do this, applicants should enter their counselor’s information into the Recommenders section of their application.

Our preference is for counselors to use our application portal to submit transcripts. However, they do have the option to submit via Naviance, SCOIR, or other methods. Applications will not be disadvantaged if counselors submit academic materials through a third-party service other than the MIT application portal.

If your counselor is not able to submit materials through the application portal or third-party service, they can send them to us as PDFs at [email protected]. Please have your counselor include your name and application number in the subject line of the email for easier processing.

Please note: If you send us a copy of your transcript while we are waiting for your official transcript to be submitted and processed, we will add it to your application as a placeholder until we receive your official transcript.
