ASK US (the MIT Bloggers) ANYTHING! by Jenny B. '25
YES
In the spirit of Campus Preview Weekend,01 This weekend, high schoolers who were newly admitted to MIT get to visit the campus and experience student culture up close, from exploring dorm culture to experiencing real and authentic(!) lectures. some of us bloggers are hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything)! Well, an Ask Us Anything.
If you don’t know what an AMA is, it’s basically a Q&A session with a person or group of people based on a specific topic. You can go down in the comments section of this post and ask any questions you might have for us. You can also upvote other people’s questions if you really want to see them answered. (You’re able to comment anonymously, but use this power responsibly!)
From 9AM EST today to 11:59PM EST tomorrow, we’ll keep an eye02 Well, unless we're eating or sleeping. Also, because we’re running this during Campus Preview Weekend, each of our availabilities might fluctuate. Some of us will be running CPW events on-campus, and most of us are going to be busy from 8pm-10pm on April 18 for a blogger-centric CPW event. on the comments section below and answer as many questions as we can. You can address your question(s) to all of us, or to specific bloggers. Whether you’re a high schooler, MIT student, someone’s parent, or if you just randomly stumbled on this post, all are welcome to ask! Seriously, you can ask us anything (within reason).03 I know this is the Internet, but use common sense. Hateful and offensive questions will be ignored and possibly removed. It can be about MIT, or how our days have been, what we ate for breakfast, etc.
For the most part, we’ll treat your questions like they were written in good faith. We might not get to everybody, but we’ll try to answer as many questions as we can. However, we will deliberately not answer questions that (1) are along the lines of “What are my chances of getting into MIT?” (2) require an answer that touches on a controversial or very sensitive topic.
We’re looking forward to chatting with you all below! Don’t be shy! We don’t bite unless we’re hungry. >:)

Andi (Class of ’25, he/him)
Hi everyone! I’m Andi, a 6-2 (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) major and 3 (Materials Science and Engineering) minor from South Africa. Some fun facts about me:
- I am left-handed, which has been… less than ideal for glassblowing at MIT.
- I play the bass clarinet in the MIT Wind Ensemble. I did not play the bass clarinet before coming to MIT.
- Despite not watching any movies or TV shows, I was the Projection Director for LSC (MIT’s student-run cinema) for two years.
- I only learned how to whistle after coming to MIT.
Emiko aka “Emi” (Class of ’25, she/her)
Hey, guys! I’m Emiko (or Emi), and my major is Mechanical Engineering with a Concentration in Product Development (2A-PD). Feel free to ask my about anything, including:
- The student-athlete experience (I’ve played varsity soccer here for four years!)
- MISTI (internships in Spain and Japan over the summer)
- Learning new skills at MIT (I’m a mechanical engineering major and when I first came to MIT I had rarely ever used a hammer — and I’ve since realized that engineering isn’t even all about that)
- Greek life (I’ve been in a sorority for all four years and have lived in the sorority house for three years)
- Product design and space exploration
- Being from the Midwest lol (St. Louis!!)

Jenny aka “Jebby” (Class of ’25, she/her)
- hi hi! if you don’t know what my blogs are like, here’s a starter pack
- my major is in 6-4 (AI and decision making). after experiencing a steep learning curve, i’ve grown to enjoy it! i’m currently interested in AI + robotics research
- i’ve worked on several cool art projects at MIT — pi day 2023, a borderline mural, and official illustrations for MIT’s social media accounts. i also took my first creative writing classes here! i’m determined to publish a book before i die
- born in atlanta, raised in alabama 🤠
- i’m an aspiring film bro. recently got a letterboxd so i can motivate myself to watch more movies
Kai (Class of ’25, he/they)
Hey, I’m Kai. I’m a physics major (course 8) with minors in Chinese and math. Outside of school I like to write, and I’m involved in musical theater. I spent most of my time in college being confused and trying different things: I’ve lived in three living communities at MIT and loved different parts of each of them; I joined (and left) multiple engineering teams as an underclassman; I’ve taken a sort of convoluted path from astrophysics to fusion to now doing research in computer vision for ecology. If you’re also confused or just want to hear about the different things I’ve tried, ask away.
Kano (Class of ’25, she/her)
Hello! I’m Kano—a 2A (Mechanical Engineering in Global Development) major with a minor in 17 (Public Policy). My family’s from Thailand, and I grew up in Las Vegas. Some fun things about my journey through MIT:
- I discovered fire spinning in university and have been playing with flames ever since.
- Though I didn’t expect to go into engineering research, I’ve ended up loving the work and have had the chance to contribute across three different labs.
- I’m proud to be part of the FLI (first-generation, low-income) community.
- I’ve explored MIT’s makerspaces through a variety of builds, mostly through mentoring for Project Manus.
- So far, I’ve traveled to five countries through MIT programs.
- I love the feeling of being small in big nature, which has led me on long bike rides and peaceful camping trips with the outing club.
Anika (Class of ’26)
Hello internet! I’m Anika. I’m majoring in 6-1 (Electrical Engineering) and concentrating in Archeology. I like firespinning, climbing, exploding stuff, sailing, ham radio, lockpicking, blacksmithing, building stupid projects, and drawing even stupider things. Most of all, I enjoy corrupting the prefrosh >:) You can ask me about:
- FIRESPINNING, HIGH VOLTAGE, CHOP SAWS, and how to be do fun dangerous things safely at MIT

- How my 18.05 midterm went today (probably poorly)
Fiona (Class of ’27, she/her)
