Whatever, this week rocks by Lulu L. '09

MIT students gripe a lot about homework. It's not all they do though, thank god.

I have nothing but analysis left to do for the last Junior Lab experiment for the rest of the week. I went to the gym today, I’ll probably go on thursday, too. Yeah, life isn’t so bad. Turns out I’m not nearly as screwed as I thought I was. To celebrate w/ me is the MIT cheerleading squad.

@ AXO Lip Sync this year: (I dunno, this was like a week and a half ago)
I’M IN IT FIND ME (you won’t be able to, so here, I’ll just tell you: I’m in the second group stunt and the partner stunt and the top of the pyramid at the end)

Last year at Lip Sync: (you may have seen this from Molly)

Yeah our squad is smaller this year. Anyways, end of term, hey!

First of all, awesome show, I guess that reaffirms the idea that MIT isn’t all study. ^^

Well, I have 2 questions about MIT that’s not really relevant to this blog. So, don’t kill me. Teehee

    1. How is cheating in MIT. Personally, I go to Troy High School (suppose to be a top high school in US) but cheating is so rampant that it pisses me off. I hate to see people that cheat their way into high school, through high school, and prob end up in a top college. So, is MIT cheater zone too?

    2. I am Chinese…so yeah…is the Chinese population in MIT err..closely knit?

Thanks, and your blogs are awesome, definitely put a perspective on Physics (which I will prob end up either as a major or a minor with Economics). And those pictures of lab equipments made me drool (yeah, i am strange like that)

PS. How sad, the year I get in..you are leaving >.First of all, awesome show, I guess that reaffirms the idea that MIT isn’t all study. ^^

Err, correction: assuming that I do get in..which is still pretty hard since I refuse to cheat and flunk 2 classes.

    Hi Lulu!!
As a fellow cheerleader and MIT student… I would like to know a) if you cheered your freshmen year, b) if that was a good choice concerning your needing to adjust to a new environment and heavier courseload/homework, and c) what *exactly* are the requirements for an incoming MIT cheerleader – particularly in the area of tumbling!! Thank you so much and hopefully I’ll see you on the squad in 2009!

    Anonymous-
About cheating, I’m not aware of much, and if it happens, it’ll just end up hurting the person who cheats. Grades tend to be weighted heavily towards exams (typically no more than around 20% of the grade is homework) so copying work wouldn’t help one’s grade by much, and without the practice of doing the homework, I can’t imagine they’d do well on the exams. The exams, at least in my experience, are proctored well enough that, as far as I know of, cheating can’t really occur.

    Brittany-

I didn’t cheer freshman year but I wish I had. I’d be a lot better now

In general the freshmen on the squad seem to be just as bad about coming to practice as the upperclassmen but no worse. Milena is a freshman on the squad and she’s on here sometimes, maybe she can pipe in. When i started beginning of this year I already had a pretty good grasp of what it would be like in terms of apportioning of time, so that wasn’t a huge adjustment. The commitment is minimal also, 6 hours a week, its a good break from things, it’s got me back into gymnastics, something i didn’t think I’d ever get back into.

Dude, tumbling? look at the size of our squad, we don’t generally turn people away no matter their skill level raspberry We have like a max of 4 “tumblers” on our team, out of like… 20 at our peak.

    Yeah, don’t be shy.

    Re: Cheating-

It’s definitely not a problem here. I know people working in groups who wouldn’t even let someone else do an integral for them.

    and Re: Chinese community-

that’s a really valid question, but I guess I’m the wrong person to ask. I went to high school being one of like 4 asian people in my grade out of 500, and never felt a need to be a part of a Chinese Community. I know that a lot of the dorms in west campus have a very high concentration of asians (next house, in particular, I hear). That’s not where I live though so I can’t tell you too much about it, East Campus doesn’t have a huge Chinese population. Bigger than my high school had, but that doesn’t say much.

Hello, i’m a brazilian student, that is finishing the high school, and i was thinking about doing college abroad, so, i would like to know, if some of you could give me your mail, or msn to talk about MIT, and studying there. My mail is [email protected], i will be waiting!
    Bye

    Yay, I’m famous!

My question: Can anybody pick me out in either video? It’s hard to pick me out because I’m big and strong on the bottom rather than cute at the top like Lulu, but I have really white legs, which makes it easier.
