massachusetts institute of technology freshman admissions portal/community v. 2.0

Stu has spent 24 of the last 25 years at MIT. After graduating from MIT with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1986, his one year away from the Institute was spent designing cars at General Motors. Since returning in 1987, he spent thirteen years as the head crew coach and three years working in the MIT Alumni Association.

This is Stu's sixth year in the admissions office. He directed the Educational Council (MIT's network of over 2,500 alumni who do the interviewing and outreach for the freshman admissions process) before serving as Interim Director of Admissions for the '07-'08 cycle.

On March 24, 2008, Stu was appointed Dean of Admissions.
