Hi! I'm Kim. I come from Wisconsin (Yay Badgers!) and go where I please. Thanks to the awesome people and programs of MIT I've been to Germany, Honduras, China, and some neat areas of the US! (The related programs are MISTI, DLAB, 6A International, and DEAPS.) Of course, living at MIT is also a lot of fun. I live at Random Hall, the smallest dorm (93 students). It's like living with a very large, quirky, comfortable family. Random's a place where you can always finid someone to play Magic the Gathering, sing Disney songs, or build a beaver fountain with. And Tuesdays occur randomly throughout the week!
When I came to MIT I expected to major in Electrical Engineering, because I was really interested in nifty biometric devices, like retina scanners. Then I took a Mechanical Engineering class that is cleverly offered only to Mechanical Engineering majors and freshmen. I thought I was being sneaky by taking the class freshman year. But it worked as the department intended, and got me really excited about Mechanical Engineering, so I declared Mechanical as my major that spring. Eventually I realized that I really did want to do Electrical Engineering and changed my major accordingly. Now I'm a senior taking (hopefully) super-amazing classes include the things I love about both majors. A good example of this is Power Electronics (6.131), which is an Electrical Engineering class that also involves a good dose of building things.
I started blogging in summer of 2007 to keep in touch with my family and friends while I was in Germany, and discovered that I really liked it. That was back in the day, when I had to resize all my pictures by hand and pirate wireless off the streets to post entries. It was very hardcore, I liked blogging so much that I kept doing it the next summer, from China, though using the fun and easy Blogger. And I liked that so much that I decided to apply to be an admissions blogger, and here we are. Enjoy!
