massachusetts institute of technology freshman admissions portal/community v. 2.0

Hi! I'm Anthony Rizos, and I'm studying Urban Planning at MIT. I'm from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, a rural desert town that's best known for the London Bridge. Computers have been a big part of my life since I was very small, but I also enjoy a strong interest in transportation. In fact, I'm pursuing a degree program to explore just that! I'm presently working toward a bachelor's and a master's degree in Urban Planning, and I plan to work in the transportation industry after graduation.

I discovered the romance of rail travel during an overnight trip when I was 9, and things just haven't been the same since. I've seen several continents aboard passenger trains and have been writing software for Amtrak since 2001. After high school, I heard about the Institute from a co-worker, took a couple of years off, applied, got in, and before I knew it I was on a plane to Boston with a bunch of my stuff.

I lived in the East Campus dorm for two years and ended up moving off campus to share a house with some friends. We live in a 120-year-old house with hardwood floors, a big basement, and free parking! (Yeah, I brought my car, and it's amazingly convenient.)

I'm having a great time, and I'm learning and seeing things I never thought possible. It seems like every step of the way is clearly marked as long as I continue to follow my heart and believe. I invite you to do the same here at MIT. :-)

(Although I'm still a full-time MIT student, I've decided to move to the Blogger Alum category as I begin to spend more time pursuing graduate studies. Please feel free to e-mail me anytime, and watch for an occasional entry now and then!)

Living Off Campus
February 24, 2008 | I moved off campus last year and rented a house with some friends who were graduating. It's been a good experience. Here are my views on off-campus living...
